MYTHOS is a UK company combining decades of cycling-specific engineering knowledge from METRON Additive Engineering and founder Dimitris Katsanis, and bringing it to consumers. This has now resulted in the launch of the first commercially available metal 3D printed bike stems, the ELIX and IXO products, available now for a limited number of pre-orders (to be delivered before the end of January 2023).
With a record totaling more than 100 gold medals across the Olympics, World Championships, and all 3 of cycling’s Grand Tours, MYTHOS exists to drive further innovation to the wider cycling community. The UK company is the latest to additively produce bicycle parts and it is doing so with by leveraging 3D printing technology from state-of-the-art EBM and DMLS machines. This allows MYTHOS designers to blend truly unique styling with performance, producing components that can’t be replicated using conventional manufacturing methods.
The MYTHOS IXO stem is made in aerospace-grade titanium (Ti6Al4V) using EBM technology by METRON Advanced Equipment. It is the first in a line of mountain bike products like no other. Designed specifically around the most extreme load-paths experienced by a stem, the IXO is 16% stiffer in torsion, and 11% stiffer in bending, when tested side-by-side with an equivalent Alloy stem. The IXO is tested using the fatigue test methods outlined in ISO 4210-5
With a length of 100 to 130 mm, and weighing in at just 50 grams (including hardware), the MYTHOS ELIX is made in Scalmalloy using SLM technology, also by METRON Advanced Equipment. It was designed specifically around the most extreme load paths experienced by a stem, and it is 15% stiffer in torsion than an equivalent alloy stem while maintaining the same bending stiffness, so you can put more power down when you need to and still stay comfy on the rough stuff. It is compatible with FSA ACR Integrated Cockpit System and was tested using the fatigue test methods outlined in ISO 4210-5.
