Modix, an Israel-based manufacturer of large-scale 3D printers, has announced the commercial release of its BIG-120Z 3D printer. The system, which was first unveiled last June, has a build volume of 600 x 600 x 1200 mm and is being marketed to industries like fashion and advertising where low-cost large-scale parts and products are required.

The new BIG-120Z 3D printer is based on Modix’s modular design, which is also integrated into the company’s existing systems, the BIG-60 and BIG-120X machines. The printer is deployed as a self-assembly kit, which Modix says has enabled it to keep production and shipment costs low for customers. The machine, which measures two meters in height when assembled, can reportedly fit through any standard doorway in its pre-assembled form.

“Modix is extending its offering from two products to three,” commented John Van EL, Modix CCO. “This will be shortly followed by additional larger models as presented during the ‘Formnext’ tradeshow. At the same time, we are busy with developing several add-ons that will increase customization capabilities for both our end-customers and our resellers.”

Besides its large size, the BIG-120Z has a number of other notable features, including a 32bit Duet3D controller, an enclosure made of aluminum composite panels and polycarbonate doors, leveling casters, advanced dual E3D Aero extruders and dual high flow E3D Volcano hotends. The system is also equipped with a premium motion system made up of HIWIN motion rails, Gates timing belts and IGUS signal cables.

Modix’s latest system also integrates a number of smart features, such as power-off resume functions, a filament runout sensor, automatic bed leveling and stall detection. The large-format system is available starting at $9,500 and delivery for the first production batch is expected to start this month. Other systems on the horizon for Modix include the Big-1000, Big-180X and Big-40.
