MGA to host Women in AM Summit at annual meeting this September
This September, Mobility Goes Additive (MGA) will be hosting its annual meeting in Berlin, where MGA network members will come together to look back on the past year’s successes and challenges, and members of the AM industry can attend interesting panels and participate in workshops. This year, as part of the two-day conference, the MGA is also hosting a Women in AM Summit, an exclusive women-only event that aims to create more space and networking opportunities for the women in the industry.
It’s no secret that the additive manufacturing industry is male dominated. In 2018, a report from Alexander Daniels Global showed that women represented only 13% of AM professionals. This dynamic is not restricted to AM, but extends to the broader STEM job force. In 2023, for instance, the U.S. Bureau of labor statistics reported that only 16% of engineers and architects were women. This disparity is the result of several societal challenges, from gender stereotypes informing how girls are taught from a young age, to the lack of women role models in the field. All that to say, an event that spotlights and gives a platform to women in the industry with the aim of encouraging greater diversity and building community is hardly a radical idea.
The Women in AM Summit will kick off the MGA Annual Meeting on September 23, 2025 in Berlin. The summit’s program consists of several events, including talks, workshops and dedicated networking opportunities. Stephanie Brickwede, Managing Director of MGA and the Head of Additive Manufacturing at Deutsche Bahn, will launch the event (as well as participate in a panel discussion on “AM Across the Urban Transport Network”).
For Brickwede, who we spoke to at length in our Mobility AM 2025 eBook, creating an inclusive environment for women in the industry is not only key to increasing diversity in AM organizations, it is also central for improving the AM industry on the whole. She told us: “We need to encourage more women to get into the industry: we have a different perspective on additive manufacturing and we come up with different use cases, after all, we represent more than 50% of the potential end users.”
Other workshops and panels in the Women in AM Summit include a presentation on 3D printing of precious metals and jewelry by jet3D’s Limor Stoller, a talk by Deepali Sood, the Global Coordinator of WomenX Collective programme of UNFPA, a discussion on the digital process chain for metal AM by Saskia Glück, from the Institute of Production and Informatics (IPI) and more. The Women in AM Summit will be held from 10:00 am on September 23, 2025 at Berlin’s Marienpark business park. The panels and discussions will be followed by lunch and networking.
