Materialise to spin off RapidFit business in management-led transfer
Belgian 3D printing company exits automotive tooling unit as part of strategic refocus
Materialise, the Belgian AM software and service provider that trades on the NASDAQ, is transferring its RapidFit business to the unit’s existing management team, with the transaction expected to close on or around April 30, 2026. Following the deal, RapidFit will continue operating as an independent company under the same name and leadership.
The move comes as part of the company’s broader growth strategy, as it targets a concentration of investment on its highest-priority business lines.
Automotive tooling unit goes independent
RapidFit specializes in custom 3D-printed jigs, fixtures, and quality control solutions, with a primary customer base in the automotive and manufacturing sectors. The business produces lightweight, high-precision tooling using AM technologies, serving production efficiency and quality assurance functions for industrial clients.
“For RapidFit, operating as an independent company provides greater focus and flexibility. A standalone setup allows the business to make decisions closer to its customers and markets, build on its core strengths, and pursue partnerships and investments that best support global growth,” stated Jurgen Laudus, Vice President of Manufacturing at Materialise.
RapidFit’s separation leaves Materialise with a tighter portfolio as it works to direct resources toward business segments it considers to have stronger long-term growth trajectories.
The company recently reported its 2025 financial results, with strong growth in its medical sector and an overall stable YoY revenue trajectory.
Founded more than 30 years ago and headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, Materialise operates one of the largest 3D printing facilities in the world and employs what it describes as the largest concentration of AM software developers in the industry.
