# Markforged adds color to Onyx material family with new glass fiber-filled nylon

[Markforged](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/markforged/) has released Onyx GF, a chopped glass fiber-filled nylon that [extends the company's Onyx material family](https://www.voxelmatters.com/markforged-onyx-fr-flame-retardant-composite/) by offering functional color as a built-in property rather than a secondary finish.

The material ships in six colors — red, yellow, blue, green, gray, and white — with pigment embedded directly in the material formulation, eliminating the need for painting, labeling, or post-processing steps.

The release targets manufacturers who use color as an operational signal on the production floor. Color-coded tooling and fixtures support 5S and visual management frameworks, reduce assembly errors, and help operators distinguish parts by process, revision, or production line at a glance.

[Markforged](https://www.voxelmatters.com/stratasys-acquires-markforged-from-nano-dimension-for-42-5-million/) stated the material addresses applications in aerospace and automotive facilities running Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention programs, food and beverage and pharmaceutical operations requiring zone segregation and general workplace safety settings where high-visibility fixtures near machinery or robotic cells reduce dependence on signage.

“Bringing color to the factory floor is about far more than aesthetics; it is about unlocking a new level of operational velocity, safety, and error-proofing for our customers,” said Jon Bond, General Manager of FFF at Markforged.

“Until now, manufacturers often had to choose between the industrial-grade performance of materials like Onyx or the use of brittle, weaker materials like ABS or PLA. With Onyx GF, we are removing that compromise entirely. We are delivering the same trusted mechanical foundation our users rely on every day, but with the immediate communication benefits that functional color provides. This allows teams to scale visual management seamlessly across their entire enterprise.”

## Mechanical properties carry over from standard Onyx

Markforged reported that Onyx GF retains the tensile strength, stiffness, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy of the existing Onyx material. Parts printed in Onyx GF can be reinforced with continuous carbon fiber through the company's Continuous Fiber Reinforcement (CFR) process for applications requiring higher structural performance.

The material is also non-conductive, making it suitable for electrical isolation applications.

Onyx GF is available now for Markforged FX-series industrial printing platforms and is described by the company as compatible with existing user workflows without hardware modification.
