# Malaysia set for “first” 3D construction printing standards framework

V3D Asia Ltd and its commercial arm, Nuvah Sdn Bhd, have entered into a collaboration with SIRIM Academy Sdn Bhd to develop what the companies claim is Malaysia's first set of [industry standards for 3D construction printing](https://www.voxelmatters.com/two-story-3d-printed-home-seismic-approval-japan/).

The three organizations will form a drafting committee, with V3D Asia and Nuvah serving as the primary industry partners. The two firms are expected to contribute material science expertise, engineering knowledge, and real-world implementation experience to shape the framework, while SIRIM Academy — a body with an established role in Malaysian standards development and certification — will lead the standards-setting process.

## Addressing structural gaps in Malaysian construction

The initiative comes as Malaysia's construction sector continues to contend with persistent labor dependency, material waste, escalating costs, and extended project timelines. A recognized 3DCP framework, the companies stated, is intended to improve construction efficiency, reduce waste, and support more sustainable urban development.

V3D Group Chairman Kazuhiro Ono said: “Establishing clear industry standards is essential in accelerating the adoption of 3D printed construction technologies safely, responsibly, and at scale.”

Beyond standards, the group said its aim is to build a homegrown construction ecosystem that [reduces dependence on imported systems](https://www.voxelmatters.com/vertico-reports-41-construction-3d-printers-sold-globally/), positioning Malaysia as a hub for construction innovation.

## SIRIM Academy's role

SIRIM Academy Covering Chief Executive Officer Mohd Bakri Jali said: “Through this collaboration with V3D Asia and Nuvah, SIRIM Academy brings its expertise in industry standard development, training and certification to support the establishment of a credible and practical framework for 3D construction printing.”

No timeline for the completion of the standards framework was disclosed by any of the companies involved.
