Lyten and Modovolo have entered a partnership naming Lyten’s PA1205 filament the primary material for Modovolo’s BFP, a modular 3D printing platform for aerospace, motorsports and industrial parts. The companies, based in San Jose, California, and Syracuse, New York, respectively, are positioning the deal as a step toward a domestically sourced and manufactured additive manufacturing supply chain.

Modovolo built the BFP as a containerized system that can be set up in remote or harsh environments without reliance on external supply chains, and the platform runs on Lyten’s 3D Graphene-enhanced filaments.

Filament performance drives the selection

PA1205, a nylon-based filament reinforced with Lyten’s 3D Graphene material, outperforms carbon fiber-based alternatives by 100% in X-Y axis tensile strength, 40% in Z axis tensile strength and 50% in impact resistance, with improved temperature performance, faster print speeds and less warping without a loss of dimensional accuracy, claims Lyten.

“We selected Lyten’s filaments for our BFP platform after an exhaustive search for high-performance materials. Lyten’s PA1205 enables us to print stronger and lighter parts while maintaining a better print finish and speed vs competing products. Lyten’s filaments are an integral part of our product roadmap,” said Justin Call, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at Modovolo.

Dan Cook, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at Lyten, said: “Our goal is to prove better performing, better priced products can be both sourced and manufactured locally, creating supply chain resiliency and business model flexibility for customers.

We use Lyten’s proprietary 3D Graphene to not just make better 3D printing filaments, but to enable aerospace, motorsports, and industrial customers to rethink how they design, how they manufacture, and how they supply products around the world. We could not be more excited to integrate PA1205 into Modovolo’s BFP 3D printing platform to help scale their product globally.”

A drone maker that built its own printer

Modovolo has used Lyten’s filaments since 2025 to manufacture its Lift Quadcopter-X, a multi-payload drone built for commercial, first-responder and defense use. According to the companies, the BFP platform grew out of that work, after Modovolo could not find a printer fast and affordable enough to produce aerospace-grade drone components at scale.

Modovolo now pairs BFP with Lyten’s filaments to set up modular factories for aviation and industrial parts in the field.

Lyten and Modovolo plan to jointly display the BFP platform at the Civil-Military Innovation Institute, the Northern Strike military exercises, and other aerospace and motorsports events through the remainder of the year, they confirmed.
