3D printer manufacturer Aleph Objects has expanded its hardware offering for the second time this year with the release of the new LulzBot TAZ Workhorse Edition 3D printer. The new machine is the next-generation iteration of its well-reviewed LulzBot TAZ 6 3D printer. Improvements to the new desktop 3D printer include a larger build volume, faster print speeds and improved print accuracy.

The new LulzBot 3D printer has been dubbed the Workhorse because of the TAZ’s reputation for being a workhorse among makers and 3D printing experts. As Eric Beardslee, Aleph Objects’ Product Marketing Manager, explained: “Tens of thousands of users and industry analysts worldwide nicknamed TAZ the ‘Workhorse.’ Since it earned the name, we decided to own it.”

With a print area of 280 x 280 x 285 mm, the LulzBot TAZ Workhorse Edition has a build volume 14% larger than the TAZ 6. The new 3D printer also integrates automatic X/Y/Z backlash compensation for better print accuracy and precision. Other updates that help to improve print quality include a new belt-driven Z-axis and a new lightweight tool head design. The new features were all informed by feedback from LulzBot TAZ users.

“People have been using TAZ 3D Printers as tools in the most demanding environments,” said Aleph Objects CTO Steven Abadie. “With the TAZ Workhorse Edition, we gathered feedback from users in these conditions and added upgrades such as a reinforced frame and sturdier electrical connectors for unparalleled durability, while improving upon the already impressive print quality.”

The robust desktop machine is the result of seven 3D printer iterations developed over the past six years. Over the years, user feedback and technological advancements have enabled Aleph Objects to improve upon the TAZ’s design and function. 3D printers in the LulzBot TAZ line have been used by makers and professionals alike in the creation of various types of functional parts. In-house, the 3D printers have also been used to produce millions of production-grade parts, running nonstop for millions of hours—earning the Workhorse name.

In terms of materials, the LulzBot TAZ WorkHorse is compatible with a broad range of filaments, including high-heat and high-strength composite polymers. This compatibility is thanks to the printer’s hardened-steel tool head components, which provide robust and reliable extrusion, as well as the new LulzBot toolhead with 360° cooling that offers superior overhang and bridge performance.

The LulzBot TAZ Workhorse Edition is now available to order starting at $2,950.
