Chimak3D, a leading Argentinian manufacturer of professional grade 3D printers, presented life-size a tribute sculpture of Lionel Messi at the Fimaqh exhibition, an international machine fair that takes place in Tecnópolis, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The sculpture, measuring 1.70 meters in height, is a tribute to Argentina’s top football player – one of the greatest players of all time – which is particularly relevant as the World Cup 2018 in Russia is fast approaching. “We thought of Messi to make sculpture as a way to honor the best player in the world, with a work that leverages a technology developed in this country, which is totally innovative and presents an exceptional quality,” said Chimak3D’s founder David Cimino.

The statue was 3D printed with a Chimak3D Dynamic model, which boasts a printing volume of 1 cubic meter and is the first system of this size produced locally in Argentina. PLA material was used to produce it and the surface painting was carried out by the Argentine artists Wip3D. The print was completed in 100 hours, which is a record time for a structure of this size.

The main use of the Chimak3D Dynamic systems is furniture production. In addition to the sculpture, Chimak3D has a development team for the digital production of full-size designer furniture. Chairs, benches, and tables have been manufactured. The area of 3D printed furniture is being further explored as it offers endless possibilities to create.

The Chimak3D team is achieving impressions of less than 12 hours for a bench, 20 hours for a chair, and about 70 hours for a unique table design created by Argentine designer Esteban Barreiro. Chimak3D is now consolidating its printing process, ensure higher reliability along with larger prints and faster printing ties. New and even larger models are expected to be on the way for the the 3rd quarter of 2018.
