Laempe’s L3D-200 sand printer passes pre-acceptance test at Herborner Pumpentechnik
The unit is the first sold machine in Laempe Mössner Sinto's new industrial 3D printing line, qualified together with the German pump maker
Laempe Mössner Sinto’s first sold L3D-200 industrial binder jetting 3D printer has passed its pre-acceptance test at Herborner Pumpentechnik, the German pump maker that ordered the machine in July 2025. The test took place at Herborner’s foundry in Herborn, where the two companies worked through the machine’s qualification together before signing off on the unit.
Herborner’s foundry team pulled the first printed sand cores out of the L3D-200’s Jobbox, the loose sand bed where the printer builds each part, themselves, a moment Laempe described on LinkedIn as the point where additive manufacturing “becomes tangible.”
Herborner Pumpentechnik is a family-owned manufacturer founded more than 150 years ago, with its own iron foundry producing centrifugal pumps for water treatment, swimming pool technology, industrial, and maritime applications. The company has run Laempe’s conventional core shooting machines since 1985 and picked the L3D-200 to add additive core and mold production to its existing process, targeting prototypes and small series work first. Herborner’s foundry manager, Torsten Kumpf, said at the time of the order that the machine’s modular design let the company configure the system it needed now without closing off future development.
The L3D-200 is Laempe’s newest platform for additive and hybrid core manufacturing, built on a modular, open system architecture that lets foundries choose their own binder and resin. Laempe designed the machine to run alongside conventional core-shooting equipment rather than replace it, and has said it plans to add bidirectional printing and full process automation to the line. The printer won the Hugo Junkers Prize for innovation in June 2026 and Formnext’s (R)Evolution Award in November 2025, and Laempe showed it running at customer sites during its first Open Week event at its Meitzendorf headquarters in June 2026.
Laempe Mössner Sinto positions itself as the market leader in core manufacturing technology for foundries, with about 350 employees across facilities in Barleben and Meitzendorf, Schopfheim, Mannheim, Pune, and Beijing. The Herborner Pumpentechnik order was its first customer win for the L3D-200 when announced last July, with delivery scheduled through 2026.
