Kwambio introduces desktop-sized Ceramo Zero Max 3D printer

New York-based ceramic 3D printing company Kwambio has unveiled a new binder jetting 3D printer for ceramics. The new machine, to be presented at CES 2019, is the Ceramo Zero Max, a smaller, desktop-friendly version of its original CERAMO ONE 3D printer.

Based on the company’s patent pending binder jetting technology, the new 3D printer will integrate many of the same features as the original CERAMO ONE machine, just on a smaller scale—ideal for home or office settings. The technology itself functions by depositing a water-based binder onto a ceramic or silica-based powder to build up objects layer by layer.

The Ceramo Zero Max features a build volume of 150 x 150 x 150 mm, a resolution of 300 dpi per layer and a print speed of 4 layers per second. The desktop ceramic printer will reportedly retail for $5,000 at its launch. In terms of applications, the compact binder jetting system was developed for rapidly prototyping parts—meaning that in many cases, post-processes (such as sintering) would not be necessary.

“A smaller ceramic printer is an ideal option for those who print prototypes on a daily basis,” said Kwambio CEO Vlad Usov. “With our glass-based powder, the manufacturing process is the shortest possible: it’s just the printing process, an object doesn’t require glazing and firing. It is a way to prototype efficiently.”

Dmitriy Skomorokhov, Sales Director at Kwambio, added: “Many of our clients are considering printing their products in-house with the help of our new and shiny Ceramo Zero Max, and we are here to help them establish a full production on a budget.”

Kwambio unveiled its first 3D printer, the CERAMO ONE, to the public last year at CES 2018. Using its ceramic printing technology, the company also operates an on-demand service for the design industry. Through this service, the company prints and ships out over 12,000 objects every year to customers all over the world. As Usov explained to us in an interview earlier this year, the company’s success and scope is largely due to the efficiency of its in-house technology.

Notably, the company also develops its own materials for its 3D printing platform. Presently, the company works with two materials: porcelain (its most popular option) and an opaque glass-based powder, which is well suited for prototyping. Another material which is now “in the works” will be compatible with the Ceramo Zero Max. The company says it could be “a game-changer for businesses and individuals with product ideas.”

As mentioned, Kwambio will be presenting the new Ceramo Zero Max 3D printer at CES 2019 from January 8 to 11 in Las Vegas, along with its $25,000 CERAMO ONE industrial system.
