King Abdulaziz University and NAMI sign MoU on AM research
Agreement covers reverse engineering, materials development and workforce training in Saudi Arabia
King Abdulaziz University (KAU) and the National Innovation Industrial Company (NAMI) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on additive manufacturing research, training and industrial applications.

NAMI, an AM company owned by Dussur, 3D Systems and Saudi Energy, said the agreement was intended to exchange expertise and develop capabilities in scientific research, training, consultancy, reverse engineering and additive manufacturing.
The MoU covers joint research and development in reverse engineering and additive manufacturing, along with the production of research prototypes and expert evaluation programs.Â
Under the agreement, the two organizations will also explore and improve materials including polymers, metals and composites, alongside developing engineering designs and prototypes.
The partnership also includes developing qualification and certification programs for additive manufacturing applications, intended to meet local and international standards. Additional provisions cover training courses for students, supervision of graduation projects, consultancy services and joint competitions centered on additive manufacturing.
The agreement further provides for laboratory access for testing and for participation in externally supported research projects, according to NAMI.
Professor Alaa Attar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Rabigh at King Abdulaziz University, represented the university in the signing. Mohammed bin Munther Swaidan, Chief Executive Officer of NAMI, signed on the company’s behalf.
The agreement comes as part of NAMI’s efforts to expand AM across the Gulf region, having recently signed a partnership agreement with MBK Global.
