The U.S. Army has issued IperionX a second task order under the company’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase III indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract for low-cost domestic titanium for defense applications.

The task order is firm-fixed-price and carries a stated base value of $18.5 million, of which $11.5 million has been funded and obligated. A further $6.9 million in unexercised and unfunded options could raise the maximum value to $25.4 million.

Task orders 1 and 2 had an aggregate stated value of about $19.8 million, leaving $79.2 million available under the $99 million IDIQ ceiling awarded in June 2025. The funding covered three industrialization work packages in full and made an initial allotment to a fourth.

The order paid for equipment to expand continuous HSPT and dehydride furnace capacity and to bring titanium fastener finishing in-house at IperionX’s Virginia facility, positioned as the downstream complement to GenX, its continuous HAMR titanium platform.

The program covers titanium track pins, bolts and fasteners, with inspection and acceptance planned at Detroit Arsenal and the Army Research Laboratory’s Aberdeen Proving Ground.

”This second U.S. Army task order represents an important step in scaling IperionX’s titanium powder-to-part manufacturing platform,” said Taso Arima, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at IperionX.

“The SBIR Phase III award aims to advance continuous and industrial-scale HSPT and dehydride capacity and bring titanium fastener finishing fully in-house at our Virginia titanium manufacturing facility. This award aligns with GenX, our next-generation continuous HAMR production platform, which together will provide an integrated American titanium manufacturing system.

“The program will expand our capacity to manufacture titanium track pins, bolts and fasteners for the U.S. Army, shorten production lead times and strengthen the domestic titanium manufacturing capabilities required to support U.S. defense supply chains.”
