iAM3D launches large-format LPW Z2500 metal AM machine
India-based company's laser DED system pairs a large build envelope with dual powder- and wire-fed deposition
iAM3D has launched the LPW Z2500, a large-format laser directed energy deposition machine aimed at space-tech, aerospace, defense, oil and gas, heavy engineering and research applications.Â
The multi-axis system offers a 2,000 x 2,000 x 2,500 mm build envelope inside a fully enclosed argon chamber designed for reactive and aerospace-grade alloys, including titanium, Inconel, tantalum and refractory materials.
Dual deposition modes
The LPW Z2500 supports both powder-fed and wire-fed laser DED within a single machine, a combination iAM3D said was intended to enable high-resolution builds, high deposition rates and flexible material strategies without requiring separate systems.Â
A built-in beam switch allowed the machine to change between the two modes instantly. A high-power fiber laser and refined material delivery systems supported rapid deposition for large-part manufacturing and heavy-industry work, iAM3D said.
Process monitoring and material range
The machine includes a monitoring suite with high-dynamic-range melt-pool imaging, pyrometer feedback and live process diagnostics, which iAM3D said supported stable deposition and repeatable metallurgical quality.Â
It also incorporates machine learning software and a process library intended for rapid prototype development. iAM3D claimed the system could process any metal AM alloy available in powder or wire form, with a primary focus on titanium, nickel and refractory alloys for demanding applications.
