# Hyperion Systems to produce Australia’s first 3D printed polymer homes

[Large-scale plastic extrusion specialists Hyperion Systems](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/hyperion-systems/) has entered into an agreement with fellow Australian company Little Castles Small Homes to produce what the company has described as the first 3D printed polymer house in the Southern Hemisphere, using recycled plastic feedstock processed through in-house additive manufacturing technology.

The partnership will see Hyperion Systems produce the core structure of the tiny home in modular sections at its facility, where it estimates printing turnaround time will be two days. The completed modules will then be transported to Little Castles Small Homes for final fit-out.

## Recycled polymers and building code compliance

“We will be using recycled polymers as our base feedstock, and through the intellectual property we have developed in-house, we will be able to print the core structure for a tiny home in around 48 hours,” said Josh Wigley, Chief Executive Officer at Hyperion Systems

Wigley also stated that the [choice of material carried practical performance benefits beyond its sustainability credentials](https://www.voxelmatters.com/construction-grade-structural-beams-3d-printed-by-mit-team-using-recycled-plastic/). “Being constructed out of recycled polymers, the structure will be termite resistant and have beneficial thermodynamic properties,” he added.

The build, designed to meet Australian building code requirements, which have strict safety, durability and compliance standards, has broader implications for housing supply in the country.

“By accelerating build times and freeing up skilled labor to focus on more traditional home builds, the technology offers a pathway to delivering more housing at scale,” explained Wigley.

## A different approach to residential construction

Mark Hughes from Little Castles Small Homes said the project [went beyond the application of a single new technique](https://www.voxelmatters.com/ecoalf-3d-prints-new-store-using-3-3-tonnes-of-recycled-plastic/).

“We're not just building a tiny home differently — we're shaping how homes should be built into the future,” said Hughes. “More sustainable, more considered, and making better use of what we already have. It's about creating healthier spaces and proving that smaller homes can still deliver a higher standard of living.”
