HP strengthens AM partnership with Siemens, Materialise and BASF

Partners expand industrial AM solution and drive innovation at new Siemens Polymer Competency Center

As if a new 3D printing system and material weren’t enough, HP Inc. has rounded off its series of announcements this morning with the news that it is deepening its additive manufacturing alliance with Siemens and other partners with the aim of advancing digital manufacturing. HP has recognized that strong partnerships within the AM industry will be an essential part of transitioning industries into digital manufacturing.

As a leader in automation and digitization, Siemens is well positioned to help HP brings its additive manufacturing technology to the next level (the next level being full industrial AM production). Through their expanded collaboration, the companies are building on their integrated additive manufacturing solution, incorporating new systems and software innovations, such as product lifecycle management (PLM), AM factory optimization, industrial 3D printing and data intelligence, manufacturing execution and performance analytics.

Integration of the Jet Fusion 5200 Series

HP is integrating its new Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D printing solution with Siemens’ Digital Enterprise offerings, creating opportunities for industrial users to produce 3D printed parts faster, more cost-effectively and at higher volumes than ever before. The integration was just announced at an event in Erlangen, Germany celebrating a new Polymer Competency Center at Siemens’ Additive Manufacturing Experience Center.

Siemens and HP are thinking ahead to the future and are bringing together the best from both companies in a complete, industry-specific solution that will accelerate the adoption of industrial additive manufacturing and help our customers to increase flexibility, efficiency and speed of digital manufacturing.”

The extended partnership sees HP and Siemens integrate hardware, software, data intelligence and services with the goal of optimizing the entirety of the manufacturing process, from design to production control. The closed-loop environment aims to streamline every step of the 3D printing process for serialized parts.

Specifically, the integrated solution combines HP’s 3D printing and 3D data platform with Siemens Digital Industries Software, including Siemens NX CAD/CAE, NX AM, Teamcenter for PLM, Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, Simatic IT and MindSphere. Currently, NX AM for HP Multi Jet Fusion software module with direct printer interface is undergoing certification by HP for its new Jet Fusion 5200 Series.

It’s all about collaborations

Today, thanks to advances in HP’s 3D printing systems and data intelligence portfolio and Siemens AM offerings, the integrated end-to-end solution has reached a level of efficiency that enables industries to viably 3D print high-quality parts at volume production.”

As mentioned, the announcement also follows the opening of a new Siemens Polymer Competency Center, where HP and Siemens will work together with automotive and industrial customers to create new products and establish digital factory environments. Volkswagen is one of the two companies’ partners in the automotive sector.

We look forward to collaborating with HP and Siemens to explore more 3D printed applications that help us deliver even greater experiences for our customers.”

Reinforcing other industrial alliances

In addition to deepening its partnership with Siemens, HP has also announced expanded alliances with two other partners: BASF and Materialise.

HP will work with chemical company BASF to deliver innovative materials certified for HP’s new 3D printing solutions. The companies will also work together to help customers create new applications for new 3D printing materials. For instance, BASF and HP have been working alongside wind turbine specialist Vestas, Sculpteo and other companies in the adoption of the new ULTRASINT TPU material by BASF.

“Collaborative innovation among key players in the industry will help customers unlock the full potential of 3D printing,” said Dr. Markus Kamieth, Member of the Board of Executive Directors at BASF. “The introduction of the new TPU is a significant milestone in the cooperation between BASF and HP, aligned with our common objective to accelerate the industrialization of additive manufacturing.

HP is also strengthening its strategic alliance with 3D printing services and software giant Materialise. Through the collaboration, HP will integrate its new Jet Fusion 5200 and Jet Fusion 500/300 3D printing solutions with Materialise’s Build Processor and Magics 3D Print Suite.

Materialise will also help HP to identify and develop new applications for customers using its new Jet Fusion 5200 Series solution using the new TPU material and others. It should be noted that Materialise is also an early partner of the HP Digital Manufacturing Network.
