Stephen Nigro retires; steps down as President of HP 3D Printing

Stephen Nigro, the man who launched HP 3D Printing business, is retiring and will step down as President of the HP 3D Printing division. He was, from the onset, one of the greatest supporters of HP’s decision to enter the digital part manufacturing industry and has been key in the company’s recent successes.

“After 37 years at HP, Stephen Nigro, President of our 3D Printing business has made the decision to retire in early 2019,” Dion Weisler, CEO of HP inc., confirmed to 3D Printing Media Network in a statement. “During the past three decades, Stephen has had a tremendous career from pioneering our first Inkjet printers to leading teams across the U.S. and Asia to most recently, turning a nascent 3D printing opportunity into a business that has become the number one commercial-grade plastics 3D printing vendor less than two years after product launch.”

In his role as President of HP 3D Printing, Mr. Nigro was responsible for bringing disruptive innovations to market, leveraging the company’s proven MJF technology and his own expertise building the 2D digital printing business to lead the 3D printing market. He had previously served as the Senior Vice President of HP’s Imaging & Printing business, bringing the industry’s leading imaging and printing solutions to market. He has over 30 years of print expertise spanning business leadership, product, and technical roles – all in driving the success of HP’s print business.

Stephen’s career involved leading many of the new breakthrough initiatives in the business. As one of the early inkjet pioneers, Stephen was part of the team that developed and delivered HP’s first color inkjet printer. He was responsible for setting up the first HP inkjet manufacturing operation outside the US. and led the team that delivered HP’s first off-axis Inkjet printer targeting the office market. He was also responsible for the creation and scaling of the HP Graphics business. Most recently his team developed and delivered HP’s PageWide strategy taking Inkjet into new markets.

A new era

“A differentiated 3D printing technology and leadership will help enable HP to accelerate the Fourth Industrial Revolution. I couldn’t be more thankful for Steve’s leadership, guidance and commitment to HP,” Mr. Weisler added, going on to announce that Christoph Schell, current President of the Americas region will transition to take over the President of 3D Printing role effective November 1st.

As President of the Americas Region for HP Inc., Christoph was responsible for the go-to-market strategy and overall financial performance of the Americas business across all products, services and go-to-markets. Christoph has been with HP for over 17 years and has held a number of senior management roles across all three regions; Senior Vice President and Managing Director HP Americas, Chief Operating Officer HP Asia Pacific and Japan, for Printing and Personal Systems; Vice President of HP Inkjet Printing, Web Services and Consumer Go-to-Market Americas and Country Manager Printing South Pacific.
