# Hi3D expands its Maker toolset with automated part splitting and assembly connectors

[Hi3D, the AI-powered 3D model generation platform](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/hi3d-formerly-hitem3d/) built on the company's proprietary Sparc3D model, released a set of new Maker capabilities designed to shorten the path from AI-generated model to physically printed and assembled object. The update centers on automation steps that have traditionally required manual mesh repair and CAD work before an AI-generated file could be sent to a slicer.

By segmenting a character into discrete parts, the tool allows each component to be printed in its optimal orientation before assembly.

## Joints and connectors

Alongside part splitting, the platform generates what Hi3D calls Auto Connectors — joints placed at the split points to align and hold components together during assembly. The combination of automated segmentation and connector generation removes a workflow step that previously required users to design pegs, sockets, or keying features manually in separate modeling software.

The update also tightened the platform's mesh output. Seleem stated that generated models are now cleaner and watertight, reducing the manual repair work typically needed before slicing. A multi-color printing function applies AI-driven color optimization to prepare models for multi-material and multi-color hardware workflows.

## Templates for makers

A new Maker Templates library allows users to generate figurines, pets, gifts, avatars, and magnets from preset starting points, with no modeling skills required. The template approach reflects the platform's stated target audience of hobby users, makers, product designers, and sellers on marketplaces such as Etsy, for whom Hi3D promises a shorter route from reference image to slicer-ready file.

Hi3D converts uploaded photos, illustrations, and logos into 3D models directly in the browser, with no local installation required. The platform offers a free tier with limited monthly generations under a CC BY 4.0 license, while paid plans permit commercial use and allow generated assets to remain private. The new Maker capabilities position the company in an increasingly contested segment of AI model generation tools for desktop 3D printing, where competitors include Meshy and Tripo.
