# Henry Repeating Arms to leverage ARRIS’ Additive Molding tech

[ARRIS Composites](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/arris-composites/), which raised[ $34 million in funding last May](https://www.voxelmatters.com/arris-raises-additional-34m-in-funding/) bringing its total funding to over $100M, has entered into a new partnership with Wisconsin-based firearm manufacturer Henry Repeating Arms. Through this collaboration, ARRIS' composite technology, Additive Molding, will be used to make lightweight and high-strength components for firearms—an authorized development in the world of 3D printed (or partially 3D printed) guns. 

ARRIS Composites was founded in Berkely, CA in 2017 and is best known for its Additive Molding technology, an automated process for additive manufacturing and molding complex thermoplastic products with continuous 3D-aligned fibers such as carbon fibers and glass fibers. The process itself is a hybrid one, combining elements of additive manufacturing with high-speed molding.

More specifically, Additive Molding leverages robotic AM to deposit a continuous dry fiber impregnated with thermoplastic resin. The idea is to use this technique to create sections of a larger part, with each section incorporating continuous fibers aligned along the part's stress vectors. Once all the segments to make up a single part are complete, they are assembled and placed in a mold, where the application of heat and pressure result in a finished part with "ideal performance, accuracy, surface quality and part-to-part repeatability."

This approach has a number of benefits, including the ability to control the 3D alignment of fibers across a part's geometry, including in thin walls and fine features. Other key benefits are the [process' scalability](https://www.voxelmatters.com/arris-increases-additive-molding-production-capacity-to-1m-parts/) and the ability to produce very strong and lightweight parts. Henry Repeating Arms, one of the United States' leading manufacturers of firearms, is expecting to roll out the first Additive Molding composite components for its guns in Q2 2025.

ARRIS Composites, which has received multiple awards from the Business Intelligence Group, has already launched other products made using its Additive Molding technology through the AURORRA by ARRIS (AXA) direct-to-consumer brand. Among the first products offered are carbon fiber insoles and phone cases.
