Henkel acquires 3D printing and industrial inkjet company Molecule Corp

Germany-based material giant Henkel has acquired Molecule Corp., a privately owned, technology-driven enterprise focused on product innovation in additive manufacturing. The specific terms of the acquisition agreement have not been disclosed.

Molecule Corp. is a provider of 3D printing solutions for a variety of applications, including medical devices, aerospace, automotive and consumer goods. The company is also known for its industrial inkjet materials, which are offered for a broad range of markets. The company is headquartered in Concord, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“Molecule Corp. and Henkel are an excellent fit,” said Philipp Loosen, Head of 3D Printing at Henkel. “Molecule’s strong 3D printing and inkjet resin technologies and digital development capabilities perfectly complement and strengthen our materials portfolio and build on our approach to offer a comprehensive range of customized additive manufacturing solutions.”

Michael Todd, Head of Innovation at Henkel Adhesives Technologies, added: “Molecule’s technology and engineering center in California also broadens our global 3D printing footprint. We now provide 3D printing support to our customers in all major regions around the world.”

“We are excited to join Henkel,” said Ken Kisner, Founder and President of Molecule Corp. “Henkel’s customer-centered approach along with our combined product portfolio will help key industries accelerate the speed of innovation and move 3D printing from prototyping to digital manufacturing.”

The acquisition is in line with Henkel’s strategy to strengthen its portfolio through targeted acquisitions. It is complementing and strengthening Henkel’s technology portfolio for durable & functional parts in additive manufacturing. It also enhances Henkel’s capacities to invent and develop new material or material components and grants access to industrial inkjet applications.

Just last week, Henkel announced the launch of its open materials platform through which it aims to work with 3D printer manufacturers to qualify new materials for various 3D printing technologies.
