GUtech (The German University of Technology in Oman) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Danish company COBOD to manufacture and ship the first 3D printer for construction to the Sultanate.

The project aims to develop academic capabilities, scientific and industrial research, and innovation, and build national capacities in advanced construction fields using 3D printing technologies.

The German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) is a private university in Halban, Oman. It was established in 2007 in Muscat in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University in Germany, one of the leading and top-ranked universities of technology in Europe. In the Academic Year 2019 more than 2200 students were enrolled in GUtech’s programs. GUtech also offers a Master of Engineering in Industrial Production & Manufacturing (MEng IPM) at GUtech campus in Oman in collaborations with the University of Brescia in Italy, that includes in depth studies on AM materials and processes.

The MEng program focuses on two strategic sectors, namely material extraction and processing, and innovative, high automation and sustainable manufacturing. The program enables students to gain solid and in-depth knowledge in the field of extraction, production, testing and control of ferrous, non-ferrous and polymeric materials, the use of new advanced materials for component production, and plant logistics with a special focus on business development and entrepreneurship.

Students learn how to run a machine, design a production cycle, or optimize manufacturing processes by using ad hoc simulation software in GUtech Labs. The gained knowledge in this “virtual environment” gives students the possibility to go deeply inside the problems of running a machine or optimizing a manufacturing process without running expensive and time-consuming experimental tests in the workshop.
