Gucci introduces collectible Gucci Cub3d 3D printed sneaker
Featuring SLS 3D printed elements combined an upper in Demetra
Gucci has become the latest fashion house to introduce a (partly) 3D printed sneaker after popular names such as Montclair and Louis Vuitton. The new highly collectible sneaker implements SLS 3D printed elements with the House’s Demetra material in a combination of style and technology. While this is not intended to go into production, the fact that even a giant name in fashion, such as Gucci, is looking at 3D printing is quite significant.
The Gucci Cub3d’s upper is crafted mainly of Demetra, the House’s material that combines quality, softness, and durability. Customized for the new sneaker, the material is from 70% plant-based raw materials primarily from renewable and bio-based sources, while ensuring peak performance. Additional materials used for the upper contain 100% recycled polyester and internal materials contain 88% recycled polyester and leather made through a metal-free or chrome-free tanning process.
Gucci 3D Footwear Designer Matteo Burzio, who worked on the project, shared on LinkedIn that the Gucci Cube3D’s lattice pattern was designed in Rhino and Grasshopper and then applied to the volumes of the sneaker midsole, with multiple color versions worn on the runway during the Gucci Sprint/Summer 2025 show. Burzio said the pattern was also applied in a “more fun and distorted way” on the slip-ons, seen during the SS25 show and that new iterations may be on the way.
The highly collectible sneaker, produced in a limited edition of 20 pairs, is presented in dedicated packaging and will be unveiled at the Gucci Via Monte Napoleone flagship boutique from April 16-21.
