# Germany Makes initiative pushes for stronger government support in additive manufacturing

Executives from Germany’s additive manufacturing sector met with senior officials at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action last week to press for increased government support. The meeting, part of the “Germany Makes” initiative, highlighted growing concerns that Germany risks falling behind other nations that are investing heavily in advanced manufacturing technologies.

Stefanie Brickwede, Managing Director at [Mobility goes Additive e.V.](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/mobility-goes-additive-mga/), said it was essential for the industry to maintain an open dialogue with policymakers. “There has been much talk about increasing competition for German manufacturing solutions from abroad,” Brickwede said. “Some in the industry are therefore surprised that German politicians have not earmarked any specific funds for additive manufacturing in their current budget — in contrast to numerous other nations such as the USA, China, and Australia.”

During the session, State Secretary Frank Wetzel and department heads Henning Wins and Werner Loscheider expressed interest in the sector’s current needs and indicated a willingness to explore short-term support options. While no immediate funding commitments were announced, participants said the meeting created momentum for broader collaboration.

The initiative’s core demand remains the launch of a dedicated support program for large-scale AM “lighthouse” projects in 2026. Brickwede emphasized the need for continued monitoring and engagement to ensure that recent discussions translate into actionable outcomes.

The session included input from several industry stakeholders, including VDMA Vice-President Alexander Jakschik and Timo Goebel, Head of Additive Manufacturing at BMW Group, who provided operational insights into AM applications. The meeting was moderated by Christian Seidel and supported by the Germany Makes team.
