Gen3D offers free Design for Additive Manufacturing online course
UK software company bringing design for additive manufacturing knowledge to as many people as possible.

Last year Gen3D won a grant from Innovate UK called “Business-led innovation in response to global disruption” and put the funds to good use to develop a free “Design for Additive Manufacturing” course to give support and help upskill people who are out of work or on furlough due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“One of the biggest challenges in the uptake of additive manufacturing globally is the ability to design optimized parts for the process. Extensive DfAM knowledge has been created, however, this is often locked up in academic journals or kept as proprietary knowledge within large organizations. Gen3D changes this,” said Wesley Essink, Gen3D co-founder and CTO.
With nearly 1000 users from around the world, March 2021 will be the last month that the online course will be offered at no cost to everyone. Using the Gen3D team’s extensive academic research backgrounds and industrial experience, the course is an ideal introduction to the fundamentals of DfAM for anyone who wants to learn or extend their skill set in designing components for additive manufacturing. It’s a 5-part online course containing: over 3 hours of video content, 50+ pages of detailed notes, 5 interactive design tutorials and various industry test cases
“We’re providing a new type of learning experience, bringing design for additive manufacturing knowledge to as many people as possible. We’ve had incredibly positive feedback from those who’ve completed the course, especially the ability to showcase their new learning with a course completion certificate,” added Steven Goguelin, the course instructor and Gen3D’s Application Engineer.
This DfAM course covers design theory, practical tips, and exemplary industrial case studies. There are also interactive design exercises created within Gen3D’s own design software to help consolidate key learning points from each of the lessons.
