# Footwearology to host masterclass on 3D printing heels

[Footwearology](https://www.3dprintingbusiness.directory/company/footwearology-by-the-footwearists/), a Barcelona-based academy for footwear professionals, has launched its latest course which will teach participants the ins and outs of designing and 3D printing high-heeled shoes. The course, which can be followed online or in person at Footwearology's lab consists of four workshops (for a total of 12 hours) on April 28 & 30 and May 5 & 7, 2025.

[Footwear](https://www.voxelmatters.com/category/3d-printed-consumer-products/3d-printed-footwear/) is among the leading consumer applications for 3D printing technologies, but within this segment there is a definite trend towards using the technology to make sneakers and more sport-oriented shoes. Footwearology is breaking out of this pattern, inviting makers and shoe designers to reach a bit higher—literally—by making high-heeled pumps.

"So far we did not give printing courses for heels, because printers and materials had their limitations, but in the past year we have now developed several workflows that are suitable for heels that can be worn beyond the catwalk."

The course will use dual-extruder FDM 3D printers (if participants don't have access to one, Footwearology will print their shoes for them), which are necessary to combine stiff and flexible materials. The footwear academy recommends that participants have some experience with 3D printing, however in-depth knowledge of 3D modeling is optional since the course includes an AI-based design workflow that is beginner friendly. More experienced 3D designers can of course take the reins and design for themselves using Rhino. Footwearology also offers some digital lasts that participants can base their design on if needed.

The masterclass will cover a variety of topics, including how to optimize 3D printing design for heels, which 3D printer models are best suited to the application, how to use AI-assisted design, which materials to use, how to prepare a shoe model for 3D printing and, finally, the 3D printing process. The goal, ultimately, is to equip footwear professionals with additional skills so that they can bring new designs to life. Moreover, Footwearology and its students are interested in circularity and aim to create shoes that are wearable, stylish and fully recyclable.

The 3D printed high-heel masterclass is open to 15 participants and is currently on sale for €395 (after March 28, the cost for registration will go up to €555).
