# Learn all about 3D printing textiles in new online course

[Footwearology,](https://www.3dprintingbusiness.directory/company/footwearology-by-the-footwearists/) the premiere academy for footwear innovation, is expanding its exploration of 3D printing with the launch of two new online courses focused on 3D printing textiles. The courses, developed to meet public demand, are virtual versions of an existing in-person course taught at Footwearology's lab in Barcelona, enabling designers from all over the world to share in the knowledge.

While many of Footwearology's tutorials and courses are focused on footwear—for example, it recently hosted a [multi-day masterclass on designing 3D printed heels](https://www.voxelmatters.com/footwearology-to-host-masterclass-on-3d-printing-heels/)—the skills developed in the textile-focused courses can be applied outside of footwear design, in fashion as well as home décor and any sector with soft furnishings. Still a relatively niche segment of the AM sector, 3D printed textiles have incredible potential, both from an aesthetic and functional perspective: new patterns and textures can be realized, and specific properties can be imparted in the material, such as breathability, impact absorption and more.

Footwearology will be hosting two courses, one for beginners and one for advanced 3D modelers. Both courses will be hosted live online (though recordings will also be made) and consist of a series of workshops. The [beginner course](https://www.footwearology.com/course/3d-printing-textiles-beginners) will begin by covering the basics of FDM 3D printing and flexible materials, and then progress into teaching participants how to create mesh textile swatches in slicing software. In the second course, the focus will be on designing more complex textiles in Cura that combine various layers for enhanced performance and style.

In the third lesson, participants will learn about multi-extrusion printing and be invited to create even more advanced designs in Adobe Illustrator and 3D software like Rhino or Blender, as well as learn how to use AI tools for designing textiles. The final beginner workshop will look at 3D printing directly onto textile substrates, printing connectors for fabric and how to use various post-processing techniques for 3D printed textiles.

The advanced online course, [3D Printing Parametric Textiles](https://www.footwearology.com/course/printing-parametric-textiles-online), teaches designers how to use Grasshopper parametric design software to create advanced textiles, including three-dimensional textiles. This course includes six sessions and is based on the masterclass hosted by Lorenzo Masini at the Footwearise event in 2024. Participants need not be experts in 3D printing to follow the course, but should have some knowledge of Grasshopper software. It goes without saying that having access to a 3D printer and the right materials (Footwearology recommends Filaflex by Recreus) is essential to participating in both 3D printing textile courses.

Until May 31, the beginner course is available for the discounted rate of €250 (down from €350), while the parametric design masterclass is €399.
