UK-based filament producer Filamentive has released a declaration of recycled content for its products. The announcement comes in response to the globe’s climate crisis and plastic consumption and waste problem.

The company, which sells a range of 3D printer filaments, says it is committed to using a high-percentage of recycled plastics in all of its filaments. Further, the company’s spools and packaging products are fully recyclable.

“Due to FDM/FFF 3D printers using plastic materials as feedstock, unfortunately as 3D printing becomes more popular, plastic production and consumption will increase, causing the industry to exacerbate the global problem of plastic” stated Ravi Toor, Filamentive founder. “Filamentive specialise in sustainable 3D printing filament materials. The company was founded to address to the environmental need to use more recycled plastics in 3D printing, and also alleviate market concerns over quality and long term sustainability.”

The company has evaluated a number of its products according to BS EN ISO 14021:2016 Environmental labels and declarations—Self-declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labelling). These materials include PLA, PLA Matte, ePLA, PLA Cosmic, Wood, ONE PET, PETg, Carbon Fibre, ABS and ASA.

As seen in the table, the recycled content percentage of each material has also been disclosed as well as the source of the recycled material. Importantly, the company is aiming to show that its filaments made from recycled materials offer the same quality as non-recycled materials thanks to a strict waste selection process it employs.

“It is becoming evident that all consumers—from hobbyists to large businesses—are becoming increasingly environmentally-aware and so we will continue to set high targets for recycled content and the recyclability of our packaging” Toor added.

Makers can purchase Filamentive’s recycled products from its online store as well as from 3DGBIRE—its UK distributor—or any of its global resellers.
