Falcontech, a leading Chinese provider of metal additive manufacturing services, plans to dramatically scale up its production capacity with the acquisition of 50 metal 3D printing systems from China-based Farsoon. While 50 machines is a more long term goal to realize its Super AM Factory vision, the company does plan to be operating a total of 20 Farsoon metal printers by the end of the year.

The two Chinese AM companies first partnered in 2019, when Falcontech invested in Farsoon’s metal AM technology. Since then, the companies have also been working together to develop a customized large-format metal 3D printer for aerospace applications, as well as developing process parameters for Falcontech’s metal AM powders. The acquisition of additional Farsoon systems will enable the AM service provider to achieve its Super AM Factory, which in turn will enable the company to offer industrial-scale serial production to its clients.

Falcontech Farsoon partnership

To date, Falcontech has installed a range of Farsoon systems, including the FS420M, the FS301M, the FS271M and the custom large-format system with a build envelope of 620 x 620 x 1100 mm. The companies have also combined their respective areas of expertise to optimize print results through parameters, designs and materials. Part of Farsoon’s appeal is that its systems are based on an open materials ethos, which gives the AM service provider flexibility in terms of material development and customer requests. Today, the company has 20 sets of process parameters for aerospace applications with titanium alloys, aluminum alloys and nickel-based superalloys.

“We see an exceptional performance and stability in the Farsoon FS421M metal system via multiple series production jobs since the installation,” said Yu Hai, General manager of Metal AM solution unit at Falcontech, “We are thrilled by the high-quality parts manufactured taking advantage of the benefits from Farsoon AM. With the increasing demand of manufacturing orders, Falcontech will further expand our production capacity and improve turnaround time for delivery with more Farsoon metal systems.”
