Nearly Natural, a popular US-based brand of artificial plants, is expanding its product offering with the recent acquisition of Modernized Pottery, a company that specializes in 3D printed planters and home décor. Based out of Texas, Modernized Pottery has been making and selling a range of planters, vases, and more since 2023. All its products are made using 3D printing and eco-friendly materials like PLA with wood fibers.

Nearly Natural was founded in 2002 and has made a name for itself in the fake plant market by using horticulturist expertise to design and produce ultra realistic flowers, shrubs, succulents, trees, you name it. For Nearly Natural, acquiring Modernized Pottery makes sense. As the company explains it, the latter’s portfolio of technology and products fits seamlessly with its own offering. Put simply: plants and planters go together.

It’s not just the product synergy that explains the acquisition, however. Nearly Natural was also interested in Modernized Pottery’s US-based production infrastructure, and itself sees 3D printing as a way to accelerate the development of new products across both portfolios and be more agile in terms of designs.

“Modernized Pottery is a natural extension of our business and an exciting addition to the Nearly Natural platform,” commented Robbie Singer, founder and CEO of Nearly Natural. “[Modernized Pottery founders] Ricky and Stephen have built an innovative company with compelling products that draw a loyal following. By combining those strengths with Nearly Natural’s deep product development capabilities and broad omnichannel distribution network, we believe we can meaningfully accelerate the growth of both brands.”

Indeed, as part of the acquisition, Nearly Natural says it will grow Modernized Pottery with increased product development, greater production capacity, and wider distribution. On the latter point, Modernized Pottery will benefit from Nearly Natural’s well established distribution network comprising direct-to-consumer sales, online marketplaces, wholesale deals, and dropship channels.

“Nearly Natural is the ideal partner for Modernized Pottery’s next stage of growth,” added Ricky Wade, founder of Modernized Pottery. “We share a passion for product innovation and creating distinctive home décor that customers love. Nearly Natural’s scale, digital capabilities and customer relationships will allow us to bring our products to a much broader audience while we continue to invest in the technology and sustainable manufacturing processes that differentiate Modernized Pottery.”
