ExOne and voxeljet merge under unified holding company, finally
Combined entity aims to expand industrial 3D printing capabilities, building on an installed base of 500 systems
ExOne and voxeljet, two longtime players in industrial additive manufacturing, are now operating under a single holding company structure as ExOne Global Holdings. The move, backed by U.S.-based investment firm Anzu Partners, brings together the companies’ technology portfolios, regional operations, and leadership teams with a focus on scaling industrial 3D printing for casting applications.
Eric Bader, currently Managing Director of ExOne GmbH, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of ExOne Global Holdings. Rudolf Franz, CEO of voxeljet AG, will step down at the end of the year and join the holding company’s board of directors. Whitney Haring-Smith, Managing Partner at Anzu Partners, will serve as Chair of the Board.
Bader said the integration will prioritize customer stability and build on the companies’ respective strengths in digital sand casting and large-format industrial printing. “Our focus is to leverage our joined strengths, preserve reliability, and deliver new growth,” Bader said.
Haring-Smith emphasized the strategic fit between the two firms, calling the merger a path to accelerating product development and deepening customer engagement. “ExOne and voxeljet each bring unique strengths and customer relationships,” he said. “Under a single ownership and with unified leadership, we intend to accelerate innovation.”
Franz, who will join the board following his transition out of the CEO role, described the merger as a reunion of the early pioneers in 3D sand printing. “Both ExOne and voxeljet have set new standards for decades now by transforming casting applications through additive manufacturing,” he said.
According to Anzu Partners, the companies have deployed more than 500 industrial 3D printers globally. The strategy behind the new structure includes shared research and development, operational synergies, and cross-selling opportunities across customer bases.
