# BLT advances low-carbon manufacturing with 3D printing

[Bright Laser Technologies (BLT), a Chinese developer](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/bright-laser-technologies/) of industrial metal 3D printing technology, recently showcased its lead in sustainable manufacturing, integrating ESG principles into all aspects of its operations - from materials R&D and equipment design to customer-focused additive manufacturing.

## Environmental impact

In 2024, [BLT launched a fully automated production line](https://www.voxelmatters.com/blt-introduces-high-precision-metal-lpbf-technology/) with closed-loop powder circulation, cleaning, and waste recovery. The system reduces raw material waste and emissions at the source, including argon gas recovery. Using recycled powder, BLT cuts CO₂ emissions to 8.09 kg per 1 kg of powder - a 56.5% drop. With gas recovery, emissions fall by up to 80%.

BLT also 3D prints parts for its own machines - brackets, mounts, etc. - boosting efficiency and cutting material waste. Its lineup includes multi-laser machines (6–32 lasers), which increase throughput and enable scalable production.

Process innovations like large layer thickness (100–150 μm) and support-free printing improve speed and reduce energy use. In materials, BLT’s titanium powder for dental use received China’s top Class III medical certification in March. By June, new powders (e.g., BLT-MIM Ti, Ti65, Ti64 ELI) were added for MIM and DED applications, offering more sustainable options across sectors.

## Real-world applications

- Footwear: With partners like Zhongke Fengyang and Wanbang, BLT’s AM machines raised powder usage to over 95% and cut carbon emissions by 48%.
- Cycling: BLT helped TSB develop a titanium bike frame, slashing waste by 20% and cutting lead time by 30%.
- Aerospace: AM-enabled parts for iSpace rockets boosted material use from 10–20% to 90%+ while cutting production times.
- Robotics: With Haptron Scientific, parts were optimized to reduce weight by 20–30%, saving energy and materials.
- Cutting Tools: Optimized AM-produced tools now last longer and reduce waste.

## Social responsibility and governance

In 2024, BLT ran 398 employee training sessions and launched inclusive development programs. Its Phase III and IV facility expansions will boost production and job creation. Two new subsidiaries were founded, including one to produce 3,000 tons of metal powder annually.

BLT promotes education through scholarships and partnerships with student engineering teams. In 2024, it invested RMB 2.11 billion (USD 290M) in R&D (15.94% of revenue), filed 646 patents, and employed a workforce with over 57% holding master’s degrees.

The company maintains strong data security and IP protocols, offers anti-bribery training, and enforces governance policies to ensure transparency.
