# Elmet Technologies received $4.3 million US defense contract for molybdenum components

[Elmet Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Elmet Group Co. (NASDAQ: ELMT)](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/hc-starck/) and the sole US-owned and vertically integrated tungsten and molybdenum manufacturer, secured $4.3 million in strategic funding through a contract award from the United States Department of War. The contract supports the development of domestic manufacturing capabilities for molybdenum-based products and refractory metal components used in defense programs.

"This award directly supports our mission of securing the critical materials and components supply chain in the U.S.," said Derek Fox, President of Elmet Technologies, the Critical Materials Components division of The Elmet Group. "We expect that it will enable us to expand capacity and deploy advanced manufacturing technologies in support of our nation's critical defense initiatives, several of which depend on molybdenum-based components as a foundation. Elmet is honored to serve as a provider within that foundation."

The funding will expand Elmet Technologies' capacity in precision machining, production automation, additive manufacturing, material feeding, post-processing equipment, and finishing and inspection systems. The Lewiston, Maine-based company will use the investments to accelerate production and improve the performance of precision components for interceptor systems and US defense platforms.

The contract supports domestic manufacturing readiness, redundancy, and expansion to meet the expected long-term demand for refractory metal components, especially molybdenum-based products used in modern defense interceptor programs. Molybdenum's high melting point, strength at elevated temperatures, and thermal conductivity make it well-suited for components that must withstand the extreme conditions of hypersonic flight and missile defense applications, where the US defense industrial base is increasingly investing in additive manufacturing of refractory metals.
