# Elegoo launches pre-sale for $300 Centauri Carbon Core-XY 3D printer

After first unveiling its [Centauri Carbon 3D printer last year at RAPID + TCT](https://www.voxelmatters.com/elegoo-debuts-new-centauri-carbon-at-rapid-tct-2024/), Chinese 3D printer manufacturer [Elegoo](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/elegoo/) has officially launched sales of the Core-XY system. The machine, which is retailing for an affordable $299.99, is now available for pre-order and is expected to ship before the end of May 2025.

Core-XY 3D printers are bringing something new to the world of thermoplastic extrusion, offering a slightly different motor setup than cartesian systems with two stationary motors controlling the printhead along a horizontal plane. This configuration results in a lighter printhead, which can enable faster printing speeds and greater precision.

The Centauri Carbon is Elegoo's first Core-XY 3D printer and can reportedly reach printing speeds up to 500 mm/s with an acceleration of 20,000 mm/s². With a build volume of 256 × 256 × 256 mm, the machine is also characterized by a quick-heating 1000W AC heated print bed and a fully enclosed die-cast frame, which allows for greater temperature control and can minimize FDM 3D printing issues like warping. According to the company, the new platform can print parts such as a smartphone stand in as little as 30 minutes.

The Centauri Carbon also integrates a nozzle capable of reaching up to 320°C, facilitating printing with a broad range of thermoplastic filaments, including PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA and carbon-fiber reinforced filaments. Other features include Vibration Compensation and Pressure Advance Compensation for smooth printing, a dual-sided magnetic build plate for easy part removal, and one-click automated bed leveling.

These features as well as a "print out of the box" setup make for a user-friendly 3D printer that is accessible to entry-level users as well as professionals. With accessibility in mind, the Centauri Carbon also utilizes an open-source slicing software, ElegooSlicer, which is based on open-source Orca slicer. "3D printing has been around for decades, but its shift into the consumer space has only gained momentum in recent years," said Chris Hong, CEO of Elegoo. "The Centauri Carbon aims to be a breakthrough, lowering the barriers to creativity and enabling more people to tap into the power of this technology."

Elegoo, which makes a range of desktop 3D printing systems, also recently launched the[ Saturn 4 Ultra 16K resin 3D printer ](https://www.voxelmatters.com/elegoo-releases-saturn-4-ultra-16k-resin-3d-printer/)targeted at applications in gaming, model making and dentistry thanks to its high level of detail.
