# Elegoo delays multicolor 3D printing capability for Centauri Carbon

Chinese 3D printer manufacturer [Elegoo](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/elegoo/) got the desktop 3D printing world buzzing when it first announced its [Centauri Carbon platform last year](https://www.voxelmatters.com/elegoo-debuts-new-centauri-carbon-at-rapid-tct-2024/) at RAPID + TCT. The solution, an affordable Core-XY platform, first became available in February 2025 for the accessible price of $299.99 and quickly garnered a series of positive reviews thanks to its price point, speed and enclosed architecture. Another exciting selling point for the 3D printer was the promise of a multicolor upgrade, which would enable users to simultaneously print filaments of various colors. This upgrade, initially projected to launch in Q3 2025, has now unfortunately been delayed.

In a recent blog post by Elegoo, the company commented on the delays for its highly anticipated 3D printer upgrade, citing technical challenges and quality hurdles. "Since last year, our engineering team has been working on multicolor printing for Centauri Carbon," they wrote. "Due to some limitation of the hardware, so far the developing multicolor system has not yet delivered a performance that meets our expectation. And we cannot guarantee a release date for the multicolor system so far."

Many customers will undoubtedly be disappointed by this roadblock and the uncertainty of whether they will ever be able to leverage multicolor printing on the [Centauri Carbon](https://www.voxelmatters.com/elegoo-launches-pre-sale-for-300-centauri-carbon-core-xy-3d-printer/). To assuage this disappointment, Elegoo has announced a series of benefits for existing customers. Specifically, Centauri Carbon users can choose from three options: a $50 coupon for a filament order over $100 (valid for three months), a 365-day extension on the Centauri Carbon hardware, or an $80 rebate on the upcoming Centauri Carbon 2 Combo, slated for release in Q1 2026. Claims can be made on the company's website.

While users await multicolor printing capabilities on their desktop systems, they can continue use the Core-XY platform for single material prints. The machine, with a build volume of 256 x 256 x 256 mm, can print all standard FDM filaments (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PET, TPU, PC, PA) as well as carbon- and glass-reinforced materials. The Core-XY architecture of the printer also contributes to printing speeds of up to 500 mm/s with 20,000 mm/s² acceleration.
