# Eaton opens European additive manufacturing center for aerospace in the UK

[Eaton](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/eaton/) has opened a European Center of Additive Manufacturing at its aerospace manufacturing campus in Wimborne, U.K., giving the power management company its third AM site globally, and the second built specifically for aerospace work. The company selected the U.K. for the site and set it up to serve commercial, aftermarket and defense customers within the region.

The center will bring design, engineering, printing and validation together in a single environment, stated Eaton, and the facility is already operational and structured for production-scale AM in Europe.

The move is in a bid to address part complexity, supply chain resiliency and production-readiness requirements for aerospace manufacturers seeking lighter components and shorter regional supply lines.

“By expanding our additive manufacturing capabilities in Europe, we're enabling customers to move faster from design to production of certified components,” said Tomasina Bailey, Vice President of Engineering, Aerospace Group at Eaton.

“With deep engineering expertise and integrated capabilities, Eaton is setting the standard for scaling additive in aerospace — delivering the performance, reliability and design flexibility customers need to deliver next-generation platforms at scale.”

## Equipment and qualification roadmap

The site houses Eaton's largest metal AM system, a machine the company claims delivers up to twice the productivity of its previous platforms, and which shortens development cycles and raises throughput for complex, safety-critical components. [Eaton stated its AM processes cut material consumption and reduce the need for tooling](https://www.voxelmatters.com/energy-giant-eaton-installs-two-concept-laser-systems-ge-additive/) compared with conventional methods.

“Eaton expects to expand the facility's capabilities to further boost its ability to support high-reliability commercial and military programs at scale,” said Mike York, Director of Additive Manufacturing and Digital Design, Aerospace Group at Eaton.

“Based on customer requirements and operational readiness, the company anticipates using titanium and electron beam additive processes and is working towards achieving rigorous AS9100 aerospace quality certification.”

## Regional supply and aerospace portfolio

Eaton's manufacturing network covers multiple regions, and the company reported that the structure gives aerospace customers dual-sourced supply matched to their region, with redundancy that it said limited logistical delays and protected continuity on critical programs.
