DMC and DyeMansion collaborate to provide polymer AM

The Digital Manufacturing Center (DMC) and DyeMansion are closely collaborating to enhance the center’s polymer manufacturing capabilities. The collaboration will bring  full blasting and coloring process capabilities to the DMC, thus improving part quality, efficiencies and offering a wider array of finishes and colors.

The DMC is being built by KW Special Projects and is set to open in March 2021. The facility spans 2 square kilometres and is funded by the South-East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership’s Local Growth Fund. The DMC is a sector agnostic digital manufacturing production and innovation hub that uses the latest additive manufacturing technologies in combination with award-winning engineers. Located at Silverstone Park, the DMC is destined to target ground-breaking polymer and metal digital manufacturing solutions across a range of sectors like space, aerospace, motorsport, automotive, defence, industrial and medical.

The DMC purchased DyeMansion’s Powershot C, Powershot S and DM60 finishing systems in preparation for its official launch. These systems provide the full print-to-product workflow. The Powershot C is an efficient gentle surface cleaner; the Powershot S is a market-leading surface treatment system that provides end-use parts while also enabling the best possible colouring results; and the DM60 is used to colour parts using the DeepDye Colouring technology to offer a virtually unlimited choice of colours.

These machines add to the DMC’s existing complement of AM systems, which includes two Renishaw RenAM 500Q systems.

Kieron Salter, Chief Executive Officer at the DMC, commented: “The post-processing of polymer parts is all too often overlooked by additive manufacturing companies. For the DMC, this is a crucial element of the process chain and essential to delivering the high-quality parts our customers demand. DyeMansion’s systems bring in-process flexibility and exceptional finishing, but the collaboration is about more than just the company’s equipment, it’s about a shared vision.
