Dimension Inx will be further distributing its advanced, electrically conductive and bioactive 3D-Graphene 3D-Paint through Allevi Inc., who will be providing the material to its customers in easy-to-use kits readily compatible with Allevi bioprinting hardware. This announcement follows closely behind the recent announcement that Allevi is also selling Dimension Inx’s Hyperelastic Bone™ 3D-Paint kits.

Recent years have witnessed the increased availability of extrusion-based 3D-printer hardware (often referred to as “Bioprinters”) and software – from readily accessible and low-cost, compact desktop machines, all the way to more expensive, manufacturing-ready, industrial quality instruments. But what good is a printer without the appropriate ink, or material, with which to print? Materials such as thermoplastics as well as alginate, chitosan, and gelatin-methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogels have been available for years but have limited biological properties and clinical translatability. It is time for new advanced 3D-printable materials, including a wider variety of biomaterials, to be made available and accessible – and Dimension Inx, a Chicago-based start-up co-founded by Drs. Adam Jakus and Ramille Shah, is doing just that.

Dimension Inx is not only working to revolutionize medical and non-medical industries with its advanced materials technologies, collectively called 3D-Paints, through medical and non-medical end-product development partnerships; it is making research-grade versions of its 3D-Paints, such as Hyperelastic Bone™, 3D-Graphene, as well as 3D-paintable metals, alloys, ceramics, and more available for purchase directly from Dimension Inx as well as through other 3D-printing companies, like Allevi.

“The development and recent availability of 3D-pains through Dimension Inx and its partners, including but not limited to Hyperelastic Bone™ and 3D-Graphene, addresses the most significant limitation currently facing advanced manufacturing and 3D-printing… Materials. We are very excited to see researchers use these materials come up with new applications and technologies,”

Adam Jakus, Chief Technology Officer at Dimension Inx.

“Our new 3D-printable material platforms, including 3D-Painting, will greatly expand the number of advanced materials individuals can access,” added Dr. Ramille Shah, Chief Science Officer at Dimension Inx. “[This] will enable both academia and industry to pursue and explore technologies and applications that were previously inaccessible with 3D-printing due to current material limitations.”

Like all 3D-Paints from Dimension Inx, Hyperelastic Bone™ and 3D-Graphene are 3D-printable via simple extrusion at room temperature and do not require additional curing or stabilization steps. The resulting materials are highly functional, and in the case of the biomaterials, highly bioactive. While Hyperelastic Bone™ has exhibited exceptional promise for repair and regeneration of hard tissues, such as bone, 3D-Graphene has demonstrated the ability to influence electroactive cells and tissues, such as nerve, while remaining flexible and able to integrate with soft-tissues.
