# Desktop Metal appoints former GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt to board of directors

[Desktop Metal](https://www.3dprintingbusiness.directory/company/desktop-metal/) has announced that Jeffrey Immelt, the former Chairman and CEO of the General Electric Company, has been elected to its Board of Directors. The metal 3D printing company, which already comprises some illustrious and innovative members, says it seeks to benefit from Immelt’s over 40 years of experience in global business and technology.

“On behalf of Desktop Metal’s directors and the entire team, it’s an honor to welcome Jeff to our board,” commented Ric Fulop, Founder and CEO of Desktop Metal. “In addition to his experience leading one of the largest and most admired companies in the world, Jeff is a respected executive with a passion for technology and innovation. His track record for driving creativity and on a global scale makes him a valuable addition to the board as we continue to drive Desktop Metal’s innovation and growth strategy.”

Immelt’s appointment to Desktop Metal’s Board of Directors follows the appointment of Dr. Ken Washington, the vice president of Research and Advanced Engineering and CTO at the Ford Motor Company, to the company’s board. Desktop Metal hopes the influential board members will help it realize its mission to become a world leader in metal 3D printing.

The company, founded in 2015, has been dedicated to the development of more affordable metal additive manufacturing systems. After generating significant buzz in the industry for years, [Desktop Metal unveiled its game-changing Studio System and Production System 3D printers](https://www.voxelmatters.com//desktop-metal-now-operational-two-metal-systems/) in 2017. The Studio System is recognized as the first office-friendly metal 3D printing system for rapid prototyping and boasts costs up to 10 times less than competing metal technologies.

The Production System, for its part, utilizes the company’s proprietary Single Pass Jetting (SPJ) technology, which enables print speeds of up to 100 times faster than existing laser-based AM systems. The Desktop Metal Production System is aimed at mass manufacturing applications for high resolution metal parts.

“I am excited and honored to join the Desktop Metal board and work with this exceptional team of visionary entrepreneurs,” Immelt said of his appointment to the Board of Directors. “Since it was founded nearly three years ago, Desktop Metal has become a trailblazer across the additive manufacturing landscape and I have a tremendous respect for the company’s ability to innovate. I look forward to sharing my experiences and contributing to the future direction and growth of this emerging metal 3D printing pioneer.”
