Decibel and Caracol 3D print custom Coachella seating for SKYLRK Oasis

30 large-format benches were split across facilities in New Jersey and Texas to meet a two-week deadline

For this year’s Coachella festival, Decibel partnered with Caracol to produce 30 large-format, 3D printed benches for SKYLRK Oasis, an installation by Justin Bieber’s brand SKYLRK on the eastern edge of the festival grounds in Indio, California, near Indio Central Market and The Heineken House. Designed by the SKYLRK team and produced by Decibel in collaboration with Caracol, the seating was completed in two weeks through a distributed manufacturing model that split production between Decibel’s facility in New Jersey and Caracol’s site in Texas.

Each bench measures nearly seven feet in length, and when grouped together, the pieces form circular arrays nearly 13 feet in diameter, wrapping around palm trees at the center of the installation. Enclosed by a 360-degree electronic screen, the seating gives visitors a place to pause inside an immersive visual environment, with content moving around them on every side. Rather than reading as conventional site furniture, the benches form a low, continuous landscape for gathering: organic, flowing, and sculptural in form.

“What made this project truly remarkable was the distributed manufacturing model we deployed: 30 geometrically complex, custom benches produced across New Jersey and Texas in just a few weeks, under demanding timelines,” said Francesco De Stefano, CEO and co-founder of Caracol AM. “Coachella is where music, design and culture collide at the highest level. There is no better stage to show how robotic large-format additive manufacturing is redefining what the creative industry can build, with full geometric freedom, on demand, at scale.”

Multiplanar SKYLRK

Robotic large-format additive manufacturing made the geometry possible, enabling Decibel and Caracol to create multiplanar, complex organic surfaces that would have been difficult to achieve efficiently with conventional tooling or molding. The benches are hollow and lightweight yet highly structural, printed in recycled PETG GF from Airtech, a material reclaimed from industrial waste streams. Unlike much festival architecture, which is often temporary and disposable, the pieces were engineered for long-term, high-traffic outdoor use: they are UV-stable, weather-resistant, and fully circular, meaning they can be shredded and reprinted into new forms at the end of their life cycle.

To meet the compressed timeline, half of the benches were produced in New Jersey and half in Texas, with the design transmitted digitally so production could happen locally and in parallel at both sites. Decibel first explored this distributed, sustainable production model publicly at PORTAL, its installation for Milan Design Week 2025, where the company printed chairs live inside an abandoned factory. Where PORTAL introduced distributed production as a design proposition, SKYLRK Oasis applies the same model under commercial conditions, with a tight festival deadline, custom geometry, and high public visibility.

“PORTAL was where we first explored this idea publicly, printing chairs live in an abandoned factory during Milan Design Week, but this project put it into practice,” said Adam Hecht, CEO at Decibel. “The SKYLRK team had a clear vision for the benches, and there really wasn’t much room for delay. Being able to split production across two sites gave us the speed we needed while still preserving the design intent.”
