INSLOGIC and SUNLU launch FilaDC i10 filament dehumidifying storage cabinet

In the world of extrusion 3D printing, an alarming number of printing issues and failures can be traced back to material issues. Problems like stringing, poor layer adhesion, and inconsistent surface finish in particular can be caused by a very specific filament issue: moisture. To address this common issue, 3D printing materials companies INSLOGIC and SUNLU have teamed up to launch the FilaDC i10, a filament dehumidifying cabinet that stores and protects 3D printing consumables from degradation.
As any 3D printer user will know, moisture management (i.e. keeping filament dry) is key to getting the best 3D printing results. This is because most thermoplastics have hygroscopic properties, meaning that they will absorb moisture from the air if left exposed. When the filament is put into the 3D printer and melted for extrusion, the moisture in the plastic evaporates, causing printing inconsistencies.
Filament dryers and drying cabinets have thus emerged as a solution to this problem. Today, however, most available systems on the market rely on heat to remove moisture from filaments, an approach that can present challenges when it comes to uniformity and efficiency. Moreover, because different types of filaments require different temperatures for optimal drying, these systems struggle to process multiple filament spools at once.
INSLOGIC and SUNLU’s co-branded FilaDC i10 system takes a different approach. Rather than using hot air, the system relies on a room-temperature dehumidifying system that works by continuously circulating air through a desiccant system. In other words, air in the filament cabinet circulates through a molecular sieve that captures and stores moisture away from the filament. When the desiccant is saturated, the system automatically heats the sieve to release trapped moisture, restoring full dehumidification capacity without the need for any user intervention.
This approach also differs from more conventional heating dryers—often set using timers—through the integration of high-precision humidity sensors. These sensors monitor the air inside the cabinet in real time and tell the system when to switch between adsorption and regeneration modes. This ensures that the filament contained in the FilaDC i10 is kept in the optimal conditions.
The filament cabinet also integrates a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heating module with dual-layer protection through both hardware and software monitoring. This heating system ensures that temperatures inside the cabinet remain consistent without relying on heat to do the drying. This heating module runs quietly in the background (≤35 dB) and is safe to touch with a surface temperature of ≤30°C.
From a storage perspective, INSLOGIC’s new system can fit up to 10 one-kilogram spools of filament. These are stacked compactly inside the system resulting in a cabinet with a modest footprint and maximized storage allowance.
