Cyient and SR University create an educational partnership that promotes the Indian AM industry
Cyient and SR University entered an educational partnership that promotes an industry-oriented curriculum focused on advanced digital manufacturing systems. The partners, both based in India, aim to fill the skill gap between the need and availability of professionals in areas such as additive manufacturing. The partnership helps build AM in India’s emerging market.
Cyient is a global technology solutions company based in India. It serves Indian, European, American, and ASEAN markets, with room for further growth. The services that Cyient provides span technological sectors, with AM services a relatively new addition to Cyient’s roster. The company has incorporated AM into its offering by using an end-to-end approach in polymer and laser 3D printing. Cyient assists clients with AM tasks from rapid prototyping to full-run parts manufacture. The company brings added value by connecting AM with other parts of its digital business.
SR University is a private university located in the state of Telangana, India. Its small faculty teach a science, technology, engineering and math curriculum with a business school to boot. These disciplines operate under the University’s parent corporation, the Sri Rajeshwara Educational Society, which operates 95 educational institutions across Telangana and the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.
Cyient’s partnership allows it to establish greater AM potential in its home country even as it develops a customer base in established markets like the United States and Europe. In the past year, Cyient has trained over 100 associates in AM design through an internal training program. This program lets the company efficiently develop curricula with SR University.
Both parties welcomed the partnership. Rajendra Velagapudi, Cyient’s senior vice president said, “With this collaboration, Cyient and SR University will help advance the additive manufacturing industry in India, which is a key tenet of the Make In India initiative. We will develop industry-ready engineers with the capabilities in additive manufacturing to build cutting-edge solutions. This will help position India as a leader in additive manufacturing talent as companies across the world embark on a journey of digital transformation and adopt additive manufacturing as a key portion of their supply chains. Furthermore, Cyient will look to its academic partners such as SR University to lead innovation through industry-aligned research and development in the field of advanced materials, design, and process controls.”
Dr. G. R. C. Reddy, the vice-chancellor of SR University, was equally enthused: “Advanced manufacturing tools like digital manufacturing, flexible automation, additive manufacturing, and autonomous robots have the greatest potential to influence the manufacturing landscape in increasing the productivity and can boost innovation too to create and develop new kinds of products economically.”
The partnership is an indication of India’s strength as an emerging market in the AM field. This Network has reported on educational initiatives in the Indian market. The Network has also pointed up examples of strong AM partnerships between developed-market players and Indian companies and institutions. An Indian company has, moreover, designed and produced a metal 3D printer. These initiatives demonstrate promise in the Indian AM sector, and the educational partnership between Cyient and SR University pushes the Indian AM market further still.
