CRP shows off functional intake manifold 3D printed in Windform materials at JEC World 2017

Stay up to date with everything that is happening in the wonderful world of AM via our LinkedIn community.

For the second year in a row CRP Technology has been invited to attend JEC World as exhibitor to showcase the latest innovations in the field of additive manufacturing with Windform high performance materials.

JEC World is the largest international gathering of composites professionals. End-users are definitely the focus of interest: the show covers the whole composites value chain from raw material to processors and final products. The 2017 edition runs from 14 to 16 March at Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre, Paris.

The 3D printed applications include an Automotive intake manifold functional prototype as well as two generative orthoses made in collaboration with MHOX Generative Design studio, the main structure (with single arms) of Bebop 2 drone’s functional prototype,

The automotive intake manifold is made from Windform® SP, composite polyamide based material carbon filled. It has excellent mechanical properties with the addition of increased resistance to shock, vibrations, and deformation. Windform® SP has waterproof properties, and it is resistant to absorption of liquids and moisture.

It combines optimal characteristics of elasticity, ductility, and resistance to impact. It is also a not electrically conductive material and waterproof material, with resistance to the absorption of moisture and liquids. It has passed both the patch epicutaneous test and the analysis performed on the leaching liquid (it can be used to create devices which can be applied on skin).

Generative orthoses and Bebop 2 drone’s body are manufactured in polyamide based glass fiber reinforced composite material Windform® GT. Generative orthoses and Bebop 2 drone’s body are on display at Better Living Innovation Planet (Hall 5A), Automotive intake manifold functional prototype is at the Automotive & Land Transportation Innovation Planet (Hall 6).

The Innovation Planets illustrate four major applicative markets: Aerospace, Construction & Building, Automotive & Land Transportation and Better Living including energy, sustainability, sports & leasure, medical, consumer goods.

They display the latest innovations, the best use of composites and will propose a range of discussions and workshops for additional networking opportunities. The Planets aim at demonstrating how inevitable and fundamental the composites are in the conception for end users’ innovations.
