# Creality launches the SPARKX i8 multi-color 3D printer on Indiegogo

The printer centers on a single toolhead built with four independent filament channels, an architecture Creality calls the QuarTeks Color Change System.

The QuarTeks system pre-loads four filaments into the toolhead rather than relying on multiple toolheads or external filament swapping. Near the nozzle, the shared filament path measures less than 1 millimeter, or about 2 cubic millimeters, which Creality reports is at least 30 times shorter than shared paths elsewhere in the market. 

This lets the i8 switch color channels in under a second, reducing filament retraction, feeding and purging, and in lab testing of a four-color tower requiring 3,000 color switches, the i8 completed the job in about 18 hours, a result Creality says is 500% faster than printers using an external feed system.

The short shared path allows color transitions to be flushed into a model's infill or inner walls under optimized slicing settings, reducing external purge waste to zero grams beyond a small amount flushed at startup. The same mechanism eliminates prime towers by routing color-change travel into infill paths, with a clean wall isolating infill colors from visible surfaces.

The i8 also supports layered color mixing across its four base filaments, which can produce 16 to 32 color combinations in a single print.

The printer includes 13 sensors and an artificial intelligence vision camera in the printhead that monitor the four filament channels and flag issues such as an empty spool, filament runout or air printing. An automatic refill feature lets up to four spools of the same material load at once, switching when one runs out. 

The first 1,000 backers to order within 24 hours receive up to $50 back in shipping and tax refunds. Units are scheduled to ship from factories in October, with delivery in November depending on region.
