COBRA releasing 3D printed TOUR Irons in standard retail line

Following the success of its limited-edition LIMIT3D 3D printed irons, leading golf equipment brand COBRA has decided to introduce 3D printed irons in its standard retail line for the first time. The new golf club model, the COBRA 3D Printed TOUR iron, will officially become available for purchase on March 21, 2025.

COBRA Golf has been leveraging 3D printing for golf products from as early as 2020, when it partnered with HP to develop the KING Supersport-35 putter. The company’s commitment to using AM deepened significantly in 2024, when it released LIMIT3D, the golf industry’s first commercially available 3D printed iron. This iron, 3D printed from 316 stainless steel and designed for optimal performance and weight using topology optimization, flew off the shelves, so to speak, demonstrating to COBRA a real interest and demand for the high-performance product.

Cobra Golf 3D printed Tour Irons Now, the company has responded to this clear interest with the release of the COBRA 3D Printed TOUR Iron, a 3D printed iron based both on the LIMIT3D and the popular KING TOUR irons. As the company describes it, the new 3D printed iron is comparable in size to the forged KING TOUR iron (save for a shorter blade length and thinner topline), but integrates a complex lattice structure for significant (33%) weight savings. The iron’s internal design specifically positions discretionary weight of up to 100 grams lower in the clubhead, which has resulted in a lower center of gravity and higher moment of inertia (MOI). On top of these performance benefits, the internal lattice geometry offers more stiffness and strength to the clubface and helps to optimize the sound and feel of hitting the ball.

Like the LIMIT3D Irons, the COBRA 3D Printed TOUR irons are made from 316 stainless steel—a strong, corrosion-resistant metal. While we had guessed that the company’s previous limited edition models were made using HP’s Metal Jet process, COBRA has revealed that the 3D Printed TOUR irons are made using a DMLS process. “The 3D printed LIMIT3D irons were the first commercially available 3D printed clubs, and they sold out so quickly we had to make more,” commented Mike Yagley, Vice President of Innovation & AI, COBRA Golf. “The new COBRA 3D Printed TOUR irons offer the same premium construction, performance and feel, but will now be available as a standard COBRA model.”

The new 3D printed golf clubs will retail for slightly less than the LIMIT3D version (which sold for about $3,000). According to COBRA, the COBRA 3D Printed Tour will be selling for “$2450 for 4-PW set configuration in RH and LH with KBS $-Taper 110 steel shafts and Lamkin Crossline grips offered in stock set configurations”. It will also be possible to order a 3-iron, Gap Wedge and a range of custom shafts and grips.

COBRA isn’t the only golf company that is exploring metal AM in the design of new products. In fact, readers might remember when Bryson DeChambeau won the 2024 US Open using a custom 3D printed golf club made by Avoda Golf. Unlike the far more accessible COBRA 3D Printed TOUR iron, this custom golf club is apparently worth in the range of $10,000 and was custom designed with input from DeChambeau.
