# CGTech and Thermwood simulate hybrid LSAM technology

CGTech, a specialist in simulation software for CNC machining, is partnering with Indiana-based manufacturing company [Thermwood](https://www.3dprintingbusiness.directory/company/thermwood-corporation/) to simulate the additive manufacturing and subtractive machining capabilities of its hybrid LSAM systems. The hybrid manufacturing technology, notable for its ability to build large-scale objects, will be simulated using CGTech’s VERICUT software platform.

Thermwood’s unique LSAM platform combines additive and subtractive technologies to produce large-scale thermoplastic parts. According to Thermwood, the patented process is capable of 3D printing high-temperature polymer parts and structures of the highest quality thanks to the added trimming capability, resulting in near net shape parts. The LSAM platform is available in two versions: Dual Gantry and Moving Table, and is offered in a range of sizes. In terms of applications, Thermwood’s technology has been adopted for a range of uses, including producing autoclave-capable tooling and [compression molds for thermoset polymers](https://www.voxelmatters.com//thermwood-and-purdue-lay-groundwork-for-3d-printed-compression-mold-tooling/).

CGTech’s VERICUT software, for its part, integrates an Additive module for simulating 3D printing and CNC machining in hybrid systems. The simulation program enables manufacturers to verify the success of the production process and ensure that final parts meet requirements. The software’s ability to simulate both 3D printing and CNC cutting in any sequence make it an ideal partner for Thermwood’s LSAM technology.

"We have over 55 patented features (and over a dozen more pending) that set the LSAM apart from any other large scale additive system available today,” explained Dennis Palmer, Vice President of Sales at Thermwood. “Features like our chilled roller wheel, vertical layer printing system and LSAM Print 3D software make us the clear leader in large scale additive manufacturing. VERICUT is an important tool to use with LSAM. It assures that the tool path is correct, eliminating the possibility of expensive mishaps.”

Thermwood's LSAM technology has been or is being used for many interesting projects.
