Technical ceramics experts CeramTec GmbH has invested in a Carmel 1400C Additive Manufacturing from XJet Ltd., a ceramic and metal additive manufacturing specialist, to be installed at its headquarters in Plochingen (Germany) before the end of the year.

CeramTec, with over a century of development and production expertise, is a leading global supplier of high-performance ceramics (“HPC”) parts and components for over 10,000 different products across an extensive range of applications.

CeramTec acquires XJet Carmel 1400C solution for future growth as the technology was found to meet quality and productivity requirements “We believe 3D printing is a strategic imperative for the future of CeramTec”Horst Garbrecht, President Industrial at CeramTec

However, it is also in additive manufacturing (AM) that CeramTec – known as ‘The Ceramic Experts’ – believes the future lies:

“We believe 3D printing is a strategic imperative for the future of CeramTec,” states Horst Garbrecht, President Industrial at CeramTec. “While we continue to use and invest in many other ceramic manufacturing methods, additive manufacturing is where we see significant opportunity for growth and value, and we are delighted to be supported by XJet in our vision.” CeramTec’s goal for employing the Carmel 1400C is to serve its customers with this new technology; CeramTec will also support XJet in delivering complex parts to all kinds of manufacturers and industries.

After in-depth research into various available ceramic AM technologies, CeramTec opted for XJet based on its quality, precision, surface finish, and simplified production and finishing processes. Vice President Operations Europe for CeramTec, Jan Stenner, elaborates: “The XJet Carmel is a very good AM system that holds its own against traditional manufacturing while providing new opportunities in dimensional freedom. Our customers expect parts with the high levels of quality and performance we consistently provide with traditional manufacturing methods. XJet parts certainly measure up, and with our post-processing, we can ensure high levels of productivity.”

“We believe there shouldn’t be any compromise when companies turn to additive manufacturing for complex parts, with true geometric freedom. Our vision is to transform traditional manufacturers to digital manufacturers, in both the ceramic and metal sectors, without having to concede productivity or on the quality and performance of materials,” states Yair Alcobi, XJet CEO.

CeramTec’s system will be located in its Industrial Applications department and work with XJet’s alumina material. XJet’s unique additive technology complements CeramTec’s leading portfolio of materials and manufacturing technologies, making it a clear technology leader in this segment.

Offering the best part quality, surface, accuracy, and detail on the market, with no post-machining, in alumina, zirconia and stainless-steel materials, the XJet Carmel Additive Manufacturing System can be seen at Formnext in Frankfurt this November. See it running live on stand C01 Hall 12.0 alongside the XJet SMART Station for automated soluble support removal.
