# Carbon raises $60 million to scale AM operations

[Carbon, a California–based additive manufacturing company](https://www.voxelmatters.directory/company/carbon3d/), has secured $60 million in new funding to expand [its large-scale production platform](https://www.voxelmatters.com/carbon-dual-cure-fp3d-resin-flexible-partial-dentures/). The round included renewed participation from existing backers Sequoia Capital, Silver Lake, adidas, Baillie Gifford, Madrone, and Northgate.

The investment comes amid growing demand for localized, on-demand manufacturing capacity as industries seek to modernize production and improve supply chain resilience. The company reports the funding will support operational scaling and help bridge the path to cash-flow positive operations.

## Industrial-scale 3D printing platform gains traction

Founded in 2013, [Carbon has positioned itself](https://www.voxelmatters.com/iterate-and-carbon-apply-dls-3d-printing-to-custom-cricket-gear/) as a platform for producing high-performance polymer components at volume - a challenge that has historically limited broader adoption of additive manufacturing. In recent years, the company has introduced new 3D printers, [over a dozen engineered materials](https://www.voxelmatters.com/carbon-unveils-fp3d-removable-partial-denture-resin/), and proprietary software tools for automated design and production workflows.

Carbon has seen increased adoption across consumer, medical, and industrial sectors. [Its partnership with adidas](https://www.voxelmatters.com/adidas-3d-printed-climacool-sneakers-now-with-laces/), which began in 2017, has expanded to include mass production of fully 3D-printed footwear, such as the recently launched Climacool line. In protective sports equipment, helmets made using Carbon’s technology have ranked first in NFL and NFLPA laboratory testing for six consecutive years. Riddell and other brands, including CCM, Schutt, and VICIS, are scaling the use of Carbon-printed padding across multiple helmet lines.

In cycling, [brands such as Fizik](https://www.voxelmatters.com/fizik-fully-customized-3d-printed-bike-saddles/), Selle Italia, and Trek have manufactured hundreds of thousands of saddles using Carbon’s platform. During the 2025 Tour de France, six of the top ten finishers rode on saddles produced with Carbon technology.

## Dental segment sees high volume and product expansion

The dental and oral health segment represents another area of high-volume production, with customers reportedly generating millions of customized parts per week. Carbon recently introduced a flexible partial denture, [developed with Keystone Industries](https://www.voxelmatters.com/carbon-and-keystone-3d-print-more-than-1000000-dental-parts/), and released new software automation tools for dental labs. The National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL) has ranked Carbon as the most reliable printer supplier for six consecutive years.

“It’s an exciting time for Carbon,” said Phil DeSimone, Co-Founder and member of the Office of the CEO at Carbon. “We have built a remarkable portfolio of products and a network of trusted suppliers, production partners, customers, and collaborators who share our vision. With this latest round of investment, we’re in a good position to expand what’s possible in digital manufacturing and redefine how entire industries bring ideas and products to market.”

“We believed in Carbon’s mission from the very beginning,” said Jim Goetz, Partner at Sequoia Capital. “Carbon’s print technology, proprietary resins, and design expertise - along with their proven success across multiple industries - position them to lead and collaborate in shaping the next era of digital manufacturing in the United States.”
