Veering from its recent cycling-related announcements, 3D printing company Carbon is launching a new premium digitally printable denture workflow and material system in partnership with Dentsply Sirona, a leading manufacturer of professional dental products. The new workflow and material system significantly improve the process of 3D printing dental prostheses as well as the quality of the dentures.

Through the collaboration, Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis (DLS) is the only validated platform from Dentsply Sirona’s Lucitone Digital Print Denture materials, which are reportedly some of the best materials for the dental application in terms of accuracy, consistency and throughput. As part of the new offering, Carbon’s 3D printing technology will be used primarily for complete single arch denture over existing dentition and full-over-full dentures, which consist of one and two arches, respectively.

The digitally printable denture workflow and material system will consist of five core material system products: Lucitone Digital Print 3D Denture Resin, IPN 3D Digital Denture Teeth, Lucitone Digital Try-in 3D Trial Placement Resin, Lucitone Digital Fuse 3-Step system and the Lab Speedcure Processing Unit. The entire workflow also includes cloud-based traceable 3D printing for each denture, making production easy to track and manage.

Using Carbon’s DLS platform and Dentsply Sirona’s Lucitone Digital Print 3D Denture Resin, dental labs will have the capability to print up to eight denture arches in roughly two hours. The resin also offers a number of beneficial properties, including breakage-resistance and high impact and structural strength characteristics that exceed standards. The resin is also produced using True Color Technology and is available in five Lucitone shades.

Using the Lucitone Digital Fuse 3-step Fuse process, lab technicians are expected to be able to set and fuse up to 14 denture teeth in less than 12 minutes. Moreover, the technology is easy to use and does not require a steep learning curve for dental lab workers and can be seamlessly integrated into existing digital workflows.

The announcement by Dentsply Sirona and Carbon comes just weeks after the Lucitone Digital Print Denture was cleared by the FDA. The 3D printing dental solution will become available to early customers in the U.S. this month and a full launch for all Carbon M-Series users in the U.S. is planned for Q1 2020.
