# Calls open for 2025 WAAM Summer Internship Camp in China

In response to the increasing student demand for knowledge and practical experience, a collaborative initiative led by top Chinese universities, prominent AM enterprises, and service platforms launched the non-profit [Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) Summer Internship Camp](https://qingflow.com/f/agli87mor801?exWsId=64Z_7AjkiiSqStF72QIHWQ).

Each year, the program selects 8 to 12 outstanding students from across China who aspire to pursue careers in AM. Over one month, students participate in a structured and immersive training experience designed to build technical competencies, foster research capabilities, and broaden their understanding of the industry.

To support the industry's growth, developing high-caliber, versatile professionals with the skills and mindset required by AM is essential. With the rapid advancement of technology and the transformation of the manufacturing industry, additive manufacturing has become an efficient, flexible, and customizable production method. It is now a strategic focus for many nations and plays a crucial role in the future of global manufacturing. As such, it offers immense potential for both academic research and professional careers.

The Smart Welding & Additive Manufacturing Innovation Studio (SmartHomo Creative Manufacturing Workshop) jointly organizes the camp at Nanjing University of Science & Technology, the School of Mechanical Engineering at Southeast University, and Gezhi Academy. This year’s host company is Nanjing Enigma Automation Co., LTD.

The program will run from July 6 to August 2, 2025, and will take place in Nanjing, China.

The organizing institutions and the host company will fully cover all costs associated with accommodation and training materials during the camp. Interns are not required to pay any fees. In recognition of exceptional performance, participants may receive scholarships ranging from ¥1,000 to ¥5,000 RMB. Additionally, top-performing students will be recommended for participation in national-level technical competitions.

The training structure consists of five stages. The first two days focus on onboarding, where students become familiar with the company, integrate into their teams, and set goals for their learning and work. This is followed by six days of intensive technical training on WAAM fundamentals. The next six days involve hands-on project-based learning, during which students work on real-life R&D or production tasks such as material development, component design, or literature analysis. In the following phase, students apply their skills independently during a six-day small-batch production task. The final phase includes a six-day capstone assessment, culminating in a project defense.

Applicants must be current university students (sophomore year or above) or recent graduates, preferably from majors such as Materials, Welding, or Mechanical Engineering. Students from other fields who are engaged in or enthusiastic about additive manufacturing are also encouraged to apply. Candidates should demonstrate strong academic and English language proficiency, a genuine interest in AM technology, self-motivation, goal orientation, and good practical skills. After submitting their applications, students will undergo a standardized interview process. In principle, no more than two applicants will be accepted from the same university.

By participating in this internship, students can collaborate with leading professionals in the AM industry, engage with cutting-edge technologies, and participate in practical project simulations geared toward personal and technical growth. They will also acquire certified foundational skills in WAAM and receive an official internship certificate jointly issued by the organizing bodies and the host company.

To apply, students must submit their application and resume online by June 15, 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to online interviews, and final admission results will be announced by June 20, 2025.
