Burloak adds two TRUMPF Truprint 2000 metal L-PBF 3D printers

Burloak Technologies, a major metal 3D printing service provider in Canada, has added two TRUMPF TruPrint 2000 laser powder bed fusion metal 3D printers to the company’s already impressive lineup which includes GE Additive Arcam and EOS machines and even a Sciaky EBAM system. The multi-laser printers will boost manufacturing capacity and lend themselves to the production of high-quality products for space and aerospace applications.

In 2020, Canada-based Samuel, Son & Co., Limited completed the acquisition of Burloak enabling further scaling up of its capabilities. As a division of Samuel, Burloak Technologies has carved out a prominent position for itself as an industrial AM expert. Since Samuel acquired a minority stake in its business in 2017, the company has opened a new AM Center of Excellence in Oakville, Ontario; acquired the Sciaky EBAM 3D printer for titanium production; partnered with members of the space and aerospace markets such as Safran and Boeing.

Earlier this year, Burloak Technologies Inc. was approved by The Boeing Company (BAC) to additively manufacture aluminum AlSi10Mg components to the newly developed Boeing BAC 5673 specification. Burloak Technologies was the world’s first additive manufacturer to achieve this qualification, marking the completion of a process that included a rigorous evaluation of Burloak’s capabilities by Boeing.

The TRUMPF Truprint 2000 systems feature a small 55-µm laser beam diameter to provide high-quality printing in terms of surface quality and level of detail. The machines have a cylindrical build volume of 200 mm in diameter and a height of 200 mm. The full-field multilaser with two 300-watt fiber lasers from TRUMPF – which scan the entire build area – can thus deliver top productivity. Melt Pool Monitoring and comprehensive process monitoring contribute to ensuring the highest quality standards. The production process with the TruPrint 2000 is a closed powder circuit under shielding gas. This allows for easy and practical handling, with the highest operator safety.

The new machines from TRUMPF will now expand Burloak Technologies’s AM Center of Excellence, which spans 40,000 square feet and houses several metal and polymer AM state-of-the-art technologies. The facility helps companies accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing by providing end-to-end service solutions to clients.
